As part of Kenya Red Cross’ climate change initiative, they approached us, asking if we could teach upcycling techniques a group of 29 individuals from informal settlements from the greater Nairobi area. Each individual was selected because they have a profession that involves using their hands (i.e. tailoring, metal work, carpentry). Our goal was to give these tradesmen ideas on how to incorporate upcycling techniques into their craft.
After two full days of meaningful dialogue, hands-on instruction, and fun, our mission was accomplished! These 29 individuals learned new ways of relating to waste, which resulted in creating new opportunities for them to expand their craft!
